Kiddie Korner is an in home preschool located in the Ranches area of Eagle Mountain.
My name is Toni Weaver and I am so happy to be continuing my preschool business for the upcoming school year. This will be my third year teaching preschool out of my home. I graduated from Utah State University with a dual bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. After graduating, I got a job teaching Kindergarten in Alpine School District and taught for three years. I love young children and the magic and learning that can take place in their lives. I truly believe that I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a love for learning in their hearts. I want to instill in your child a deep love for imagining, creating, playing, inspiring, and learning. They will develop a strong learning foundation to last them for the rest of their lives!
I love young children and the magic and learning that can take place in their lives. I truly believe that I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a love for learning in their hearts. As a kindergarten teacher, I have seen the curriculum slowly move up over the years. The bar has been raised, and benchmarks have been heightened. I know what is expected of children at the kindergarten level and I want to prepare your child so that they will meet and exceed those expectations. As a kindergarten teacher, I had many students come to me knowing very little at the beginning of the school year. And, although all my students were taught the same curriculum, the students who struggled initially were the ones who also struggled to master the basic concepts. I know that the gap only gets wider and I want to prepare your child with a confidence to last them through kindergarten and every grade after.
I know what is expected of children at the kindergarten level and I want to prepare your child so that they will meet and exceed those expectations I believe that children learn best through play and real life experiences. I take a constructivist approach and use play to motivate and plan my curriculum and learning. Research has shown that children who participate in play and discovery based learning early on succeed in later years of life. I know that this is a fundamental time in your child’s life, and that is why I teach to the whole child to cover all of the areas of their unique development.
Classroom structure After doing my student teaching in the nationally accredited Adele and Dale Young Child Development Laboratory, I have decided to structure my classroom after their learning environment. My classroom will offer active exploration, promoting independence, creative thinking, problem-solving strategies, curiosity, self-help skills, and interpersonal skills.
Within my classroom, you will find these different areas:
Multiple field trips will be offered through out the year. Field trips will include small, local trips (such as a walk to the park, the fire station, a picnic, a letter walk) and a couple major field trips where parents and transportation will be needed.
Snack time is the best time to teach manners and social skills. A healthy snack will be offered daily. Snack will include a small food item and a drink (juice, milk, water). I like to offer healthy snacks as a way of introducing new foods and promoting healthy habits. With the exception of cooking experiences, I try to stay away from high-sugar snacks. Most snacks will be incorporated into the theme and will be mix-matched to make snack time fun and exciting.
These are just some examples of the snacks I offer:
Snacks will be listed in the weekly newsletter. If your child has a food allergy I will be sure to offer them something different.
Your child will be more than prepared for kindergarten! I align my curriculum according to the Utah Core Curriculum standards and also follow Fountas & Pinnell’s phonics program. Book bags will be sent home each week to give your child some exciting new choices when reading each night. As the year progresses, I will also send home daily beginning reading books when I feel that your child is ready. Homework will be provided, but is not required.
With a curriculum based around play, your child will learn all of the following (including concepts from the 3 year old class):
